Adopter: Val & Luke | Dogs: Elmo & Rufus
The team at Pennypaws were so helpful and responsive to all of our questions and concerns. The process was really easy and ended up being one of the best things we have ever done!
Now we have two lovely kind dogs that have a second chance at life to thrive and be happy. They have adapted so well to their new life and have settled in very quickly.
If you are thinking about adopting a dog from Romania with Pennypaws, trust the process. They are excellent dogs and make for great companions, we couldn’t be any happier with Elmo and Rufus!
Luke and Val

Adopter: Nicky | Dog: Rosie
We felt really supported by Gill and the Pennypaws team throughout the adoption process and
afterwards too. We know that if we needed support now, over three years on, they would be there.
The pre-adoption checks were thorough and the communication after Rosie arrived was really
reassuring.
We would definitely look to Pennypaws again if looking to adopt another dog.

Adopter: Carolyn | Dog: Luna
We had initially applied for another dog, who we found out had already been reserved.
We chatted with Gill online and she told us about a number of available dogs that fitted our criteria of
sex, size and age, as we wanted one that would be a good fit as a buddy for our 18mth old male
rescue dog we’d got from another charity the year before.
Luna was already in foster care in the UK and she sounded perfect.
We were then put in touch with Luna’s foster mum and chatted at length until we went down to meet
her. That was it, she came home with us that day.
The support doesn’t end the day you adopt. We have had a few minor teething problems with Luna,
but have been able to seek advice and know we will always have that support from Pennypaws. She
and our other dog, Buddy, have bonded so well and we feel so lucky.
Pennypaws is an absolutely wonderful charity. x

Adopter: Sarah | Dog: Tommy (Now Trevor)
My heart was broken I had lost my dog the previous year. I was lost and lonely despite having other
dogs and cats .I researched Pennypaws so decided to enquire about adopting a dog ,the team were
fantastic after a few messages. We did a video meeting we talked about my lifestyle ,our other
animals ,what I would like in a dog ,what I could offer a dog.We discussed previous dog experience
etc.I had looked at a couple of dogs after the team chatted they send me a video Of Tommy, this black
hairy terrified ball living in a wooden box that was it I was smitten.
I looked into his eyes and that was it. I just knew after lots of checking in with the team Trevor was finally gonna come home to me. From start to finish the team with her when Tommy left Romania on the happy bus I was able to track his movements and the driver sent photos so he knew he was safe and clean. They were spotless in the
back of the bus there was so well looked after that when he arrived he came in. We both sat on the
sofa next to each each other. I chatted away to him absolutely no acknowledgement at all from
Tommy. I then went Tommy nothing ,Tom nothing ,Trevor slight movement of the head and then I
went Trev and that was it. He turned around and looked at me. I looked at him and Mr. Trev was
officially welcomed into the Blackburn family. We have not looked back. He’s been amazing. He’s
helping my heart heal and I hope I’m helping his heart heal too .He’s just so happy . Mr. Trev has been
in our family three months now he’s learning how to play and sit. He’s happy. He’s very very acceptyng
of the cats and the dogs. We just take each day as it comes at his speed ,we’re just there for him and
to be honest he’s there for me. Just because they are Rescue dogs doesn’t mean they’re damaged
dogs it just means there’s that little bit more special but they are so worth it the minute the bound up
to you tail wagging ,it’s like winning the lottery.
3 months down the line Myself and the Pennypaws team are still in touch ,infact I consider them
friends .I regularly share ‘Trev’ updates and know they are there if I need them.

Adopter: Carrie | Dog: Sally (Now Annie)
I found Pennypaws after looking at quite a few other rescues sites. Saw Sally and put in an application
form. I received a reply back quickly and within a few days had a home check. Sally arrived on the
happy bus and we watched her journey from Romania. From hiding under the bed to running round
the park with her new friends in a few short months. Its been very rewarding to see her progress and
we have a beautiful loving family dog who loves a cuddle!
I’ve found adopting from Pennypaws a brilliant experience. Thanks to Laura and Sophie who done mý
home check and kept us updated with everything. I think you all do amazing work for the love of
dogs.

Adopter: Natalie | Dog: Chess (Now Cheffy)
The process was supportive and thorough from the word go. The team behind Pennypaws have
shown a level of commitment and love for their animals which gives adopters full confidence in the
process and organisation. Communication has been excellent all the way through and even now three
months after adoption the support is still available.
I would wholeheartedly adopt from Penny Paws time after time. Amazing people doing life changing
things for these dogs

Adopter: Darren | Dog: Charlie
Adopted Charlie 3 years ago, traveled from Essex to Doncaster to get him, he settled in with me
immediately, took a while to get to trust people, but now he’s fine, he loves to be by my side and is
the most loyal, loving dog, my 95 year old mum who we now live with and care for him absolutely
loves him and he’s very careful and gentle around her like he knows she’s very frail , loves to lay by
her feet as if he’s looking after her, Charlie is the most amazing, smart and clever boy. These rescue
dogs are street smart, best dogs ever, all of them.
Pennypaws do a great job rescuing these special dogs, giving them a second chance to have a better
life in a loving home which they deserve. Thank you Pennypaws for my lovely boy Charlie and all
you do to rescue these lovely special dogs

Adopter: Amanda | Dog: Abi
To be honest I was very wary as didn’t know what to expect when I considered rescuing a dog from
Pennypaws. I spoke with Laura who talked me through everything. Any worries Laura was on the
other end of WhatsApp even 7am in morning. Laura made everything go smoothly. Abi is my soul dog
now. I did find Abi was super loyal and very loving after our initial meeting.
Best thing you will ever do
is rescue a pup from Pennypaws.

Adopter: Philip | Dog: Amber
Having looked at Pennypaws excellent website over a period of months and felt like I wanted to help
all the dogs I found one suited to my household and another dog ..Its straight forward filling out the
form and if you’re a good match for your chosen dog then you’ll get a polite call from Pennypaws after
which you’ll complete a video call including a walk round to verify your home . They’re lovely to
communicate with and and you can even track your dogs journey on the happy bus.

Adopter: Angela | Dog: Niall (Now Yogi)
Yogi is so well behaved and is such a loving dog! We don’t see much on our walks at home, being out in the countryside, so I have been taking him 2-3 times a week, to walk with my friends dogs, and he is doing really well, walking past children with footballs and bikes, pushchairs etc, he is a little nervous when cars go pass and is a bit too keen wanting to pull towards other dogs, but it’s still early days. At home he is just happy to lay in the garden and house, and he doesn’t make a sound at night or when I leave him to take my older little dog on her shorter walks. I still haven’t yet got any good photos of him, but as soon as I do I will definitely leave a review. I need to tell everyone what lovely dogs they are, and that they are so desperate for homes. I have rescued nearly 50 dogs, 2 from Greece and now 4 from Romania and I have found the dogs from aboard are just so grateful and content. I am so lucky to have adopted Yogi and he is so loved! Thank you

Adopter: Heloise | Dog: Baby Bear
We’re delighted with the newest member of our family and forever grateful to the staff at Penny Paws
Rescue. We had clear communication and support throughout, couldn’t be happier with our
experience.

Adopter: Adel | Dog: Vegas (Now Bagel)
I’d been looking to adopt a rescue dog for a while and couldn’t be happier I decided to go with Pennypaws. It has been an absolute pleasure dealing with the wonderful, passionate volunteers – the process was smooth from start to finish; we kept in regular contact, and I was kept informed every step of the way. Even after the adoption, the volunteers are always there if you need any advice or further support.
Now, a couple of months later, my lovely pup, Bagel, is all settled in and is the absolutely sweetest dog. I’m hoping to get Bagel a friend once the time is right and will definitely be looking to adopt from Pennypaws again.

Adopter: Tyler | Dog: Rose (now Nala)
Adopting our Nala from Pennypaws has truly been the best decision we’ve ever made. My mum adopted her two sisters and we couldn’t bear the thought of Nala being left behind – we are so glad we followed our instincts. From start to finish, the entire experience has been positive, supportive, and filled with genuine care.
The team at Pennypaws Rescue are incredibly responsive and transparent throughout the process. The home checks are a great opportunity to ask questions and ensure you have everything in place for successful adoption. Gill, Sophie and Laura took the time to answer all of our questions, provided detailed information about Nala’s journey and needs, and made sure we felt confident and prepared before bringing her home. It was clear that they are deeply committed to matching each pet with the right adopters.
Nala has been a perfect girl: healthy, great with other dogs and humans, mischievous, and receptive to training. As with all rescues, the journey has been challenging at times, but incredibly rewarding. She is taking all the new milestones in her stride – just two months in Nala knows how to ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘paw’, ‘boop’, ‘look’, ‘high-5’ and ‘roll’. Last week was her first trip to the beach, and she loved it!

Adopter: Lesley | Dogs: Jessey, Kabibi & Sky
Jessey was my first pennypaws adoption, I met her with her foster mum walking in a park and fell instantly in love, she was almost one, I put an application in for her the next day, her foster mum asked us to visit on three occasions to make sure we were a good fit and committed, then a few weeks later she came to live with us, her past left her with a few issues, but she had been given a good start in foster, and apart from one poop accident it was like she had always been there, she was even good with the cats, wary of strangers (still is) but that was understandable, but she settled well, I kept in touch with Gill and as I had been to romania quite often she asked if I would like to volunteer on one of the rescue visits, which of course was a great honor and has become a yearly thing now.
Because of how great Jessey was I volunteered to foster a puppy through Pennypaws from Botasani, and Kabibi came into my life, a shy scared little pup of 6 months who hid under the sofa for a week and broke my heart…..then the veil dropped and oh boy did we know about it, it became evident very quickly that I had no idea what was doing with a puppy, and I had this tiny little wrecking ball with inspector gadget legs going through my house like a cute fluffy tornado, terrorising the cats and chewing everything in her path, and every other typical puppy behaviour, Thankfully I had Gill and the team on the end of the phone and on video calls to help me through (every single day for month)I adopted Kabibi because despite her being hard work I fell in love with her mischievous nature and cute little face and she is so affectionate, well worth the work even if she is a bit naughty.
Lastly on a visit last year to one of the rescues, I walked in the first day and met Sky and simply said “thats my dog” and she came home two months later, she really has been the perfect dog, no stranger danger, lead reactivity, nothing, she was meant to be mine, I love her so much.

Adopter: Aqeela | Dog: Raine
We got our amazing Raine in November. The team were brilliant from the start. Getting in touch, explaining everything and supporting us while we waited for our girl to travel. Once she was here they’ve stayed in touch to see how she was settling in. She in a wonderful soul and fitted into our home and family like she was the piece that was missing. Thanks to all the team for your amazing work in saving these beautiful babies!

Adopter: Christine | Dog: Heidi
We recently adopted our first Romanian rescue Heidi. The process was extremely efficient, Heidi was matched with our request but also Heidi’s welfare was paramount which was very reassuring. Gill did a professional home check via video call. We received Heidi within five minutes of her arrival time. Which is amazing considering the journey. She arrived to the door and passport and paperwork were given. Gill and Laura have been available for all advice needed and genuinely care about all the dogs and us as adoptees. I would definitely recommend Pennypaws if you’re considering fostering or adopting. Well done to all the wonderful Pennypaws team and a big thanks from me, Richard and Heidi.

Adopter: Laura | Dog: Penny
Our journey with Penny wasn’t a “standard” adoption story. She had already been adopted locally to us, but when her owner sadly became very ill and could no longer care for her, Penny needed emergency foster and Pennypaws were immediately on the case. This was the first time we’d heard of them and upon hearing Penny needed a lifeline, we offered, completed a home check, filled out the paperwork and arranged to collect her.
She was very scared and unsure at first (understandably) but with time, patience and support from Pennypaws, she has blossomed, and very quickly turned into a ‘foster fail’ (I.e. adopted by us!).
What stood out most throughout our journey was Pennypaws’ unwavering commitment – not just at adoption, but for life. Knowing that Pennypaws offer lifelong back-up for their dogs offers such reassurance and shows the integrity of their work.
I have since started volunteering with Pennypaws, and am proud to support the incredible work they do saving otherwise disadvantaged dogs and changing their lives.
We’re so grateful Penny found her way to us.

Word of MouthAny other comments:
Pennypaws operates by a small team of truly passionate and committed volunteers who help alongside their day jobs. The charity is non-profit, so every single donation goes solely to help dogs – I have seen and felt how life changing it is and will definitely adopt through Pennypaws again.
