Pennypaws Rescue – Volunteer Travel & Animal Handling Liability Waiver


    1. Acknowledgement of Risks
    I acknowledge that volunteering with Pennypaws Rescue in Romania involves high risk environments, including:

    • Handling dogs rescued from kill shelters, private kennels, and open fields
    • Contact with dogs of unknown background, including potentially aggressive or
    fearful animals
    • Exposure to confirmed or potential illnesses in dogs
    • Unforeseen hazards such as bites, scratches, zoonotic diseases,
    environmental hazards, travel risks, and accidents
    • Working in unclean shelter environments, including exposure to dirt, waste, and unhygienic conditions
    • The need for careful personal hygiene when handling animals, waste, and contaminated surfaces I understand that Pennypaws Rescue cannot guarantee the health, behaviour, or safety of any animals, and while known illnesses will be communicated, some risks (e.g., rabies or other serious diseases) may be unknown.

    2. Voluntary Participation & Autonomy
    I understand that my participation is entirely voluntary, and I am free to always set my own limits. At no point am I expected to handle any animal or perform any task that I am uncomfortable with.
    If I feel unsafe, unable to continue, or in need of support, I agree to immediately report to:

    • Primary Contact: Gill Jenness – 07795803434
    • Secondary Contacts: Sophie Smith – 07794933531 or Laura Finney – 07791786308
    • Alternative Support: Any other Pennypaws Rescue volunteer present who must then report to a Trustee (Gill Jenness, Sophie Smith, Laura Finney)
    • Please also report any accident or incidents so they can be formally logged.

    3. Personal Responsibility for Preparations
    I understand it is my responsibility to:
    • Obtain appropriate travel insurance, including coverage for volunteer work,
    medical treatment, hospitalisation, evacuation, personal liability, and cancellations.
    • Ensure all relevant vaccinations and health precautions are up to date for travel to Romania and contact with stray or rescued dogs
    • Pay for all costs associated with travel, accommodation, medical treatment, hospitalisation, evacuation, vaccinations, medications, and any other expenses incurred while volunteering, and I understand that Pennypaws
    Rescue accepts no liability for any of these costs.
    • Maintain personal hygiene and follow recommended precautions when handling animals, waste, or working in unclean environments.
    • Seek guidance from a medical professional about any additional precautions specific to animal handling or travel.

    4. Waiver and Release
    In consideration of being allowed to participate in volunteer activities with Pennypaws Rescue, I hereby:
    • Release, waive, and discharge Pennypaws Rescue and its trustees, volunteers, employees, agents, and partners from any and all liability, claims,
    demands, costs, or causes of action arising out of or related to any injury, illness, loss, or death sustained while volunteering or travelling with
    Pennypaws Rescue, whether caused by negligence or otherwise.
    • Agree not to sue Pennypaws Rescue or any of its representatives for any such liability, claim, or cause of action.

    5. Indemnity
    I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Pennypaws Rescue and its trustees, volunteers, employees, agents, and partners from any liability, claim, loss, cost, or expense (including legal fees) arising out of my participation in volunteer activities or travel.

    6. Governing Law
    This waiver shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
